From The Editors: The principle of "Middle East exceptionalism" remains hegemonic in academia. Even some of the most brilliant scholars often abandon their own criteria for sound academic judgment when it comes to the Middle East. But the most articulate critique of "Middle East exceptionalism" is no longer effective.
